Services

Our editing services will ensure that your material is well written and formatted per APA or Chicago Manual Style (CMS) and your institution’s style guidelines.

Before engaging any editing service, it is important that you understand the difference between copyediting and proofreading.

Copyediting is the process of reviewing and correcting written material to improve the accuracy, readability, and to ensure there is fit between the written word and the intended purpose /audience. Copyediting focuses on the 5 C’s of writing: clear, correct, concise, complete, and consistent. Additionally, copyediting seeks to ensure that the material is free from error, inconsistency, and repetition. Copyediting takes your work from the rough copy stage to final draft. Proofreading is a form of editing that is done with documents that are already well constructed and in the final stage of the editorial cycle.

At PhD-Ready we offer five levels of editing. Each level delivers a different depth of editing service. You should expect to see noticeable changes to your original paper.  With any level of editing you should be prepared to reread your entire paper and review the changes.

Type 1: Formatting

Detailed attention to the technicalities of APA/CMS formatting,  ensuring APA/CMS style is correct and consistent throughout the document. Additionally, editors will cross-check in-text citations with reference list entries and verify publisher information.

Type 2: Proofreading

Think of proofreading as the final check before your research is shared with others.

Editors will: check grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, verb tense, and pronouns. They will ensure that formatting is both correct and consistent throughout the document.

Type 3: Standard Copy-editing

This level includes APA/CMS formatting and proofreading, plus minor improvements to both grammar and syntax. This level of editing is for well written dissertations that require minimal changes.

Type 4: Advanced Copy-editing

Includes all the features of Standard Copy-editing (Type 3) plus (1) improvements that address structural changes to improve consistency, transitions, and flow; (2) reduce redundancy;  (3) enhance clarity; and (4) overall improvement in the effectiveness of the writing.  Advanced copy-editing is suitable for almost any rough draft level material.

Type 5: Substantive Editing

This level is designed for any ESL or native English speaker who feels/has been told their writing requires considerable assistance with phrasing and formulating sentences/paragraphs for clarity, consistency, and academic tone.

For clients, whose English is a second language.

The editors at PhD-Ready understand that papers written by ESL clients may require more than simple punctuation and grammar corrections, and they are ready to help. Often, ESL writers need assistance with word choices and transitions between sentences. By eliminating errors in grammar, punctuation, language structure, and formatting we can help you guide your reader’s attention to what matters most…your work. ESL writers, proficient with the basic mechanics of English writing, will still benefit from help with the fine points of academic writing.

PhD-Ready is not in the business of conducting your research or writing your thesis/dissertation. Our goal is for your readers to focus on the work you have done and not be distracted by formatting or grammar. We do reserve the right to reject any submission that is so poorly written it cannot be ethically edited.
